Douthat on the Myth of the Theo-Cons and the Dangers of Oprahism

Ross Douthat makes the case: the Bush years actually typified the very sort of Panglossian, watered-down Christian deism that many secularists now want to herald as the cultural replacement for fundamentalist theo-connery.

It’s a thesis of which New Atheist Sam Harris might be proud: that we as a country have even more to fear from the cloying ego of spiritualized Oprahism than from any old-timey porch religion.
